Wizards (1977) Movie Review

Wizards (1977) is a cult animated movie by Raph Bakshi which combines the post-apocalyptic and fairy tale setting. The titular ‘Wizards’ are twins that look nothing alike: Avatar is a Ginger Gnome whilst the other, Blackwolf, bears a striking resemblance to an Undead Saruman. And guess what? One is good and one is evil – but which?

Webcomic War Round 2

So far all the participants are unscathed, but not for much longer!

Ancire retreats back to where he started whilst Amuletts tries to intercept.  Taversia heads towards the cluster of pets battling it out in the center.  An Octopus strikes at Haley but she was smart enough to attack at the same time, racking her teeth across three of them before being hit by a fourth.  The fourth had initially concertrated on Sabine, so its hit doesn’t damage Haley, it just seers off some fur.  On the other hand Sabine is getting a bit confused, unsure what to do about the terrifying cat running straight at her.  The cat leaps into the air, scratching two of the octopi that were hovering over Sabine’s head with her claws. They fall to the ground, dead. The cat lands and, opening her mouth wide, decides to see if she can swallow a Guinea Pig whole!  Sabine, of course, doesn’t go down easy and does a bit of damage to the inside of her, though she does not survive the trip.  In the meantime Ahres is looking for something to hide behind, but the only cover available is Ancire!  He jumps down from the ledge and shelters in his masters shadow.

Webcomic War Round 1

Battle has finally commenced in the Webcomic Planet War. Thanks to the help of my loyal minions (that’s you by the way) and partly due to my own efforts I have been able to create the most powerful weapon in the arena: The Epic Fail Device! (Dun dun duuuuhhh)!  Only three people stand in my way Ginpu, of Ginpu webcomic, with her army of adorable flying Octopi, Lady Taversia of Wayward Fall, with her side-kick Penny the Cat, and my arch-nemesis Ancire of Union of Heroes and his mini-gun wielding freak!  All other participants have fled, either too weak or too terrified to face Evil Amuletts, let alone two killer Guinea Pigs!

Starting positions are:

ALL YOUR COMIC ARE BELONG TO US!

I make my evil plans know to the world:

I also received a pathetic video response from Ancire of Union of Heroes about being bombed in the Webcomic Planet War, which lead to some impromptu singing:

Webcomic War 2010

war20101

WAAAAAAAAAAAR!

Yes, Epic Fail is once again participating in the Webcomic WAR! And this time I intend to win! The theme this year is ‘Evil Genius.’ I have a great idea for a video: one of me sitting in on a high, shadowy chair slowly stroking a guinea pig…

At the moment there’s only one way you can help: posting to your blogs, twitter and/or forums about the AWESOME power of Epic Fail at www.comicofepicfail.com !

And then I shall take over the world and use you all as my slaves! Muahahahaha – *COUGH!* … Uh, could you forget about that last bit? I meant to say ‘fill the world with puppies and happiness.’ Honest.

Guest Strip at Union of Heroes

Ancire – the creator of Union of Heroes – became my nemesis during the Webcomic Planet WAR! Then we both joined the Webcomic Planet Collective at which point we put our differences behind us.  And by differences I mean Amuletts.  In back-stab position. So that’s what I drew when he asked for a guest strip.

The WAR! is over…

The webcomic WAR! is over.  It ended last night when the remaining participants Life’s a Witch and Slightly Off Topic fell in battle leaving my nemesis Union of Heroes the sole survivor – and victor.

Epic Fail & Apple of Discord died together when Ant Guy turned out to be a suicide bomber.  Who knew?  Sadly this means I have no victory to celebrate and will not be making cartoons in my underwear.  Disappointed parties – you know who to blame!

For me the contest was a push to get out there in the webcomic community.  Prior to the contest I barely knew another webcomic artist.  Now I have met a great deal and consider several to be good friends.

With Epic Fail being so new there was no way I would have started promoting it if not for the WAR!  The rules contained a straightforward list of promotional activities.  I’m proud of the fact that despite joining two weeks late Epil Fail was the WAR’s top promoter.  I tryed everything… except advertising.  I signed up for Project Wonderful but sadly never got any furthur.  That’s something I intend to correct however, I have heard a lot of good things about it.

Things that really worked for me were:

Doing Fanart – FUN!  You get to draw other peoples characters, and show them how much you appreciate them.  They usually link back to your comic and might even reciprocate with some fanart for you.  Most importantly you just made a friend for life!

Signature Banners – This means that every time you post to a forum there’s a link to your comic there.  Loads of people click on it.

Twitter & other Social Networks – Just get out there and meet people – lots of people!  They make it really easy to remind people your comic just updated and tell them any special news.

Many thanks to Frumph & Webcomic Planet for running the WAR!  I know he put a great deal of time into it.
