Dreamfall: Chapters Game Review

Dreamfall: Chapters is an episodic game adventure game by Red Thread Games. It is very story-driven with a choice-and-consequence system, and these two things are certainly it’s main selling points because they are its best features.

I enjoyed Dreamfall: Chapters mainly for the story but the game was inconsistently built which made it a bit of a pig in places. Some areas were polished whilst others were not. So if this review seems a little bit bi-polar (excuse the use of the term) it’s because that is what the game is: at times wonderful and at times terrible depending on what section you are in.

Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness Movie Review

Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness is the D&D Players Movie.  The movie producers no longer cared about pleasing the masses and focused on their core audience. After all, after the failure first & second movies who else was there to appeal too? This movie is not in any way connected to it’s predecessors (aside from the number). And that is something to celebrate, the fact that someone must have said “It’s Dungeon’s and Dragons! Just make the movie like the game.” And it is. So if you play D&D you’ll probably be super into it Book of Vile Darkness.  However, those who don’t are less likely to appreciate the fan service and more likely to notice the low budget!

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Movie Review

I reviewed The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug but I put off reviewing Battle of the Five Armies for a long time because I find it rather upsetting to watch. It feels a bit like this movie is trolling me. It has some nice scenes particularly as Martin Freeman does an excellent performance as Bilbo, parts of the movie are very beautiful and well executed but then it will pull some bullsh*t to just ruin everything! Mainly it is CGI battle stunts which are the offenders. We got some of that in The Desolation of Smaug but Battle of the Five Armies is worse, possibly because CGI battles are the meat of the movie. There’s also too much filler which includes the Tauriel/Kili/Legolas love triangle and (shudder) Alfred.

So this made the cut but some of Tolkien’s original work didn’t. Good call. NOT!

The Book of Unwritten Tales Game Review

The Book of Unwritten Tales is a Point and Click adventure game, not an RPG. To quote the trailer: “Story! Puzzles! Humour! … It’s not about muscles, it’s about brains. Players use their heads. They have to unravel mysteries and solve riddles; it’s an enthralling adventure… you can’t even die.” It’s wonderful to find a game that understands the genre so much.

Book of Unwritten Tales Review

The Book of Unwritten Tales will give a nostalgic glow to old-schoolers and is a great introduction to adventure games. It is reminiscent of classics like Monkey Island & Simon the Sorcerer except with modern graphics and less obscure puzzles. It is suitable for children and whilst some of the puzzles may be a little obvious there are definitely head-scratchers as well. The thing that makes the puzzles ‘easier’ than others in the genre I could mention is that they are more straight-forward and logical, rather than ridiculous and obtuse, which is not bad thing. Out of the three listed: Story, Puzzles and Humour the latter two are definitely the strongest elements of the game, the first the weakest. But two out of three ain’t bad.

Valentine’s Day Sex Drive 2016

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone. Once again Epic Fail is participating in the Valentine’s Day Sex Drive where webcomics draw their characters nude in celebration of sex positivity. This is obviously a grown-up thing, for grown-ups to enjoy, so the link below to the art is not child-friendly and not safe for work! The links to some of the other webcomics participating may be adult-only so you have been warned. With that out the way…

VDSD-soon

In previous years I have drawn all the adult characters from Epic Fail naked for VDSD bar one: Dirk the Paladin. So this year it’s his turn. I give you a naked Paladin flagellating himself as self-punishment for all those bad, naughty thoughts (you know, the really dirty, forbidden ones)? He swears it’s not a fetish.

More sexy naked webcomic art linked below. Due to different time zones they may post at different times through the day so check back.

The Stanley Parable Game Review

The Stanley Parable began life as a Half Life 2 Mod and has been developed into a game in it’s own right. You know how most games have a big story and a few Easter Eggs? Not so The Stanley Parable. The core ‘game’ is very short and the majority of it is finding Easter Eggs.

Labyrinth Movie Review

Labyrinth is very difficult for me to review, it being my favourite movie of all time (my second is Logan’s Run), but I felt it was time. This can be my tribute to the late David Bowie who must be remembered for his incredible role in this as Jareth the Goblin King as well as his music legacy.

Moon (2009) Movie Review

Moon, directed by Duncan Jones son of David Bowie, is a 2009 science fiction movie with a very small cast, in fact it almost entirely features one character with the only other human characters appearing on video (of which there are roughly four). This is because Sam Bell works entirely alone on the moon to provide energy for Earth with the aid of computers and a AI/robot called GERTY. Besides that he has no one but himself for company and himself to rely on 😉

Dead Island Game Review

Dead Island is a Zombie open world role-playing game that whose sunny holiday setting contrasts the usual dark, bleak settings we are used to in horror games. Indeed Banoi Island is quite beautiful and you might take a moment between Zombie killing to take in the fantastic views. The plot it simple: escape the island. Here of course the Island setting comes into its own as an open world as you can explore as much as you wish but there are limits, and you must achieve quest objectives to progress.
