Pg 68: Crazy Witch

This week in Epic Fail: Tinuvielle reassures Dirk that Amuletts will leave him alone.

Creator’s Commentary: It that an end to it? Will Amuletts stop trying to wind up Dirk?

Pg 67: Fun

This week in Epic Fail: Tinuvielle continues to cast spells on Amuletts.

Creator’s Commentary: More infighting between characters. Amuletts cannot get the better of Tinuvielle it seems!

I’m just going to do a shout out for Liliy who makes Wiglaf & Mordred who is bidding up a storm on my Project Wonderful adbox right now! Thanks, it’s appreciated. I love reading W&M, it’s totally hilarious.

In other news I’m doing NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writers Month). Blogged about it earlier. I’m living up to all your expectations and kinda sucking but I’m still going. Not sure I’m hit 50,000 words by the end of the month but I’ll have more stuff written than I would otherwise, right?

Sunday Sketch 20 – 25 Essential Expressions: Tinuvielle

25 essential expressions challenge - tinuvielle

My 2nd attempt at the 25 Essential Expressions Challenge this time with Tinuvielle. I did Amuletts before and I think I will do Clodin next. It is a good exercise and I think you all know how much I enjoy drawing expressions and putting personality into them. They really make the characters come to life in my opinion. I think this one turned out a lot better than the previous Expressions Challenge. I guess I’m improving.

As always your constructive criticism would be much appreciated.

GUEST STRIP: Gun versus Dragon

This week in Epic Fail: Tinuvielle and Jake (the Evil Hare) plan to test whether guns blow Dragons away, but they have a back-up plan if it doesn’t work.

Creator’s Commentary: Poor Clodin! Sam Medina of Jake The Evil Hare seems to have it in for him!

Besides Jake the Evil Hare Sam Medina also makes a fantasy webcomic called Darkfell which is really good, and you should check it out. On a related note he has recently launched a Novel called Katrina the Dragon Slayer which I am reading at the moment and enjoying immensely.

Sam has drawn Epic Fail a Guest Strip before and here’s a link to it if you haven’t seen it.

Pg 66: Tumbling

This week in Epic Fail: Amuletts back-flips off the back of her Gryphon and executes a perfect landing, despite Tinuvielle’s Slippery spell. However Tinuvielle follows up by casting a Clumsy spell on Amuletts which makes her fall over.

Creator’s Commentary: It’s fun having Amuletts on the receiving end for once! This is almost a Silent Page – I’m very pleased with the visuals on this one. You understand what is happening even if you can’t read the text.

Tumbing is a Non-Weapon Proficiency in 2nd Edition D&D which is quite a handy one for dexterous characters, making them harder to hit and moving them out of combat quickly. Of course it’s actually part of Gymnastics and if you’ve never seen it check out this video. I will look forward to putting it in the comic again because it’s so amazing and beautiful!

By the way I have created a new YouTube Channel called EpicFailComic and you can see me working on this page there. I may be doing some more live drawing of comic pages soon.

Pg 65: Fool me twice

This week in Epic Fail: Dirk realises Amuletts has been messing with him again and is unhappy. Tinuvielle decides she’s going to do something about it.

Creator’s Commentary: “Fool me once shame on you; Fool me twice shame on me.”

In D&D terms the ‘Slippery’ spell would be the ‘Grease’ spell (but I kinda want non-D&D players to understand what the spell does without reading a spell description, thus the renaming).

I know Amuletts elicits mixed feelings in fans: some love her some hate her. But I think you can all agree that she’s been asking for it for a while now.

Pg 62: Literally Figuratively Speaking

This Week in Epic Fail: Our heroes are ready to depart but Tinuvielle has a bug up her butt about the correct usage of the word ‘literally’.

Creator’s Commentary: Okay so my idea here was that they say they’re ready to leave and then they leave, but could I just do that? Noooo.

I had Amuletts saying ‘Time is literally money’ for a long time in my script, then I got really persnickety about the usage of ‘literally’ which it should really be ‘figuratively’ and so this happened. I’m sure logophiles will appreciate it.

I think the text is too small. Can you read it?

Pg 60: Care Less

This week in Epic Fail: Martin offends Tinuvielle by suggesting she miss the adventure in order to look after Yoru. She just thinks he’s being a chauvinist.

Creator’s Commentary: The punchline on this page made me giggle lots. Have you ever experienced something like that where you’re having private thoughts and somebody suddenly says them out loud? Only most of the time they actually said something completely different, you only thought they said what you were thinking. Or did they?

I revised the dialogue on this page sooo many times. It was tricky because in, um, ‘reality’ (RPG-land) it was Amuletts that tried to persuade Tinuvielle to stay at home with the kid, and she wasn’t nearly as delicate. I know I’ve probably just annoyed all the Amuletts fans but she was stealing the limelight. STEALING it. Seriously though I don’t think the scene could have revealed much of Amuletts’ character the way it does for Martin. It serves the story better this way getting a few undercurrents out into the open.

Pg 59: Not going back

This week in Epic Fail: Martin asks if half-demon Yoru is returning to the Guan-Yin Temple. Tinuvielle insists he is coming with the party for their upcoming adventure despite the potential risks.
Creator’s Commentary: Sorry about the wall of text in this one, but it’s pretty concise compared to what it could have been. I actually drew this page with only a vague idea of what the dialogue was going to be; I was a little worried it wouldn’t fit or gel.

I hate Tinuvielle’s face in the last panel. Hate it. I will probably have to redraw it later.
