Sunday Sketch #14 – My Little Pony Tinuvielle

My Little Pony Tinuvielle MLP FiM Fanart
This Sunday Sketch is of Tinuvielle as a My Little Pony. She is a Unicorn because she is a magic-user. Her Cutie Mark is the Celtic symbol for female power, or to put it in more modern terms: Girl Power!

Pg 53: A Closed Book

This week in Epic Fail: Tinuvielle thinks she may be able to open the sealed spell-book with magic, but it remains stubbornly shut.

Creator’s Commentary: Grr. I think the hardest part of doing this comic is thinking up titles for the pages! I know they don’t exactly need titles, but I think it’s useful for people who are flicking through the archives to know more-or-less where they are.

YAY! The first bit of real magic. I hope you like the special effects. I think they are cool!

Tinuvielle is supposed to be a very beautiful Elf, so I’ve been working on her face to make her more attractive. In D&D terms I think her Comeliness is 19 or something like that.

Pg 48: Shocking Language

This week in Epic Fail: Amuletts is taken aback by Yoru’s monstrous heritage and says things to offend both him and Tinuvielle.

Creator’s Commentary: Now the party are all back together again I feel like splitting them up again; there are far too many characters on this page!

I liked showing the reactions of the people in the Bar to the Heroes conversation. Although they take demons and such in their stride most people are shit scared of ’em. Yes, even little ones.

The Duergar joke is one only D&D folk will understand. Although I try to make the humour as accesible as possible I think it’s fair to slip a niche joke in now and then if it’s funny enough. A Duergar is basically a evil, dark-skinned type of Dwarf that lives underground and is rarely seen.

Pg 47: Amuletts Fails a Spot Check

This week in Epic Fail: The gang reunite at an Inn and have drinks (especially Clodin).  Initially Amuletts does not spot Tinuvielle because she is dressed in a drab colored dress clearly designed to cover most of her skin – a big difference from her usual revealing attire.  Amuletts challenges her, pointing out how strange it is and Tinuville admits that her son, Yoru, has made the difference.

Creator’s Commentary: If you’re experiencing deja-vu that’s because I posted this a while back, then decided it was a mistake because I’d missed out a ton of stuff. So now it’s back – in its proper place.

Check back soon: I’ll be posting a Halloween Special.

Cameo Catch-Up

Last year I missed a couple of Cameos so I thought I’d take this opportunity to play catch-up and show that I appreciate them.

Tinuvielle Cameo in LOVEFEASTFirst up Tinuvielle appeared in LOVEFEAST, hanging out in the Institute for Training in the Arts of Death and cheering on ‘delicious conflict.’  Well well, isn’t she a dark horse?

LOVEFEAST is a webcomic by Senshuu about former mortals training to become Shinigami: Gods of Death!  The characters are learning to cope with their extraordinary new powers and responsibilities whilst struggling to retain their humanity.  They are just starting their journey and it’s sure to be an interesting ride!  LOVEFEAST is an adult comic and has adult themes delivered with a smidgen of dry humour.  Interesting and worth checking out.

Amuletts Cameo in Dungeon Legacy

Next we have Amuletts turning up in Dungeon Legacy tucked behind Minos the Minotaur there.  She’s checking out a trial (probably hoping to see the law perverted) along with characters from several other webcomics credited here.

Dungeon Legacy by George Ward (aka Dungeon Warden) is, like Epic Fail, is based on Dungeons and Dragons and has been running for, oh, simply ages. It’s a comic I enjoy and have read almost all of it.  Dungeon Legacy actually gets on with the story instead of telling stupid jokes!  There’s a lesson in there somewhere…

Thanks to everyone in the wonderful webcomics community who have supported Epic Fail and done such great Fan Art and Cameos.  It really made my first year a good one.  That’s right – Epic Fail is one year old tomorrow! Granted I haven’t updated every week of that year… but I started on January 9th and it’s almost January 9th again.  Hurrah!

BONUS 03: Halloween Special 2009

Happy Halloween everybody, and happy Samhain to everyone else.  Here’s a special treat – Tinuvielle dressed up in a sexy witches outfit (she is a magic user after all and that’s practically a witch) and sitting on a big pumpkin.  Lucky pumpkin I say.

Pg 30: The long and the short of it

This week in Epic Fail: Yoru becomes impatient.  Tinuvielle explains her decision to leave him in the temple’s care.

Creator’s Commentary: Aww, wasn’t Yoru a cute baby?

In the original, pre-photoshop version of this page the final frame was the smallest.  It clearly needed more prominence so I made it bigger, but in doing so lost the space in the ‘flashback’ frames I had left for text.  This resulted in the cleric’s face in frame 7 becoming obscured.  Though not intentional, I actually quite like this – Tinuvielle handing her child over to some unknown, faceless priestess kinda adds something.

There’s a fair bit of dialogue in this scene so I tried putting some of the speach bubbles behind the characters since I didn’t want it covering all my pretty artwork.

Pg 29: Half-What?

This week in Epic Fail: Tinuvielle explains to Yoru that he is adopted and that both his Parents are dead, but won’t elaborate on how they died. Yoru’s reaction is impressively calm.

Creator’s Commentary: I thought Yoru would be hell to draw and surprised myself by doing a pretty consistent job! Expressions were quite a challenge, mainly because they’re so keyed down. This was an exercise in subtlety. Both characters are being very controlled; Tinuvielle because she’s worried about upsetting her son, and Yoru because… well… that’s what the nuns have been teaching him these past six months. He has demon blood, can you imagine what that’d be like if it wasn’t controlled?

Pg 28: No Fairy Tales

This week in Epic Fail: Tinuvielle tries to sensitively explain to Yoru that he is half-demon.

Creator’s Commentary: I know what you’re thinking “Finally – an update!” Am I right? Well I’m sorry to say I’m not back to my regular schedule yet. Thanks to all my fans for being so patient – both of you 🙂

Pg 25: No Smoking!

This week in Epic Fail: Tinuvielle expresses her hatred of smoking and is shocked to learn exactly how fast her baby is growing up.  Yoru says Hi.

Creator’s Commentary: It seems I’m getting pithier with my page recaps!

I am delighted to finally introduce Tinuvielle’s son, Yoru.  He’s been sitting in my website banner for some time now, but I never revealed who he was (though I’m sure some of you suspected).  Well, now you know.  I hope it wasn’t an anticlimax.

I stole the dialogue in the first frame directly from the lady who role-plays Tinuvielle, word for word, because it made me laugh.  Doing the facial expressions was a scream too.

Also, smoking is bad.  (Actually I really do hate smoking, it damages your health and makes you smell bad.  Really bad.  Don’t do it).

Ani means Sister.  So when Yoru says “Ani Kaitei” that’s “Sister Kaitei.” ‘Cos she’s a nun.
