Character Design: Willi Creutsfeld

This is Willi Creutzfeld, high-level Fighter and original leader of the adventuring party (the position has been in dispute, or just plain neglected, ever since). He hailed from a place called Brighton Pierre and for a while that was our default rendezvous point.

I have his Player to than for buying me my first set of D&D dice; I remember he was quite superstitious about his and hated people touching them, therefore I’d deliberately aim to borrow his (yet is is only by playing Amuletts that my full potential as wind-up-merchant is unleashed)!

I’ve dressed him in Plate Armor, which I’m pretty sure is correct, although I may regret all that detail later on. I wanted to make him look experienced and leader-ish. What I find a bit awkward with designing suits of armor is that traditionally they would have a MASSIVE CODPIECE! If I’m being faithful I ought to include it but they are… a little… distracting? I don’t think anyone would be looking at the characters face! Actually you don’t tend to see them in Fantasy Armors so I feel there’s a precedent for omitting it. Then again his name is Willi…

Character Designs: Dalion & Minerva

Character Designs for Dalion & Minerva – more of the ‘original crew’ of the adventuring party now known as Shieldless (and previously known as ‘hey you guys’). Want to know something cute? These two got married (the Players not the Characters)!

Dalion is a geriatric Halfling Mage who, due to being small and wrinkly, we nicknamed Raisin. He wasn’t always a Halfling; he used to be an Elf but died many times (actually on the day Amuletts met the party they were dragging his corpse around), failed his system-shock, and the only way to bring him back was a reincarnation spell. This is what he came back as. It could have been worse.

Minerva is not a Bard, she was just very fond of Bagpipes. She is a human cleric of Idun, the Norse keeper of apples and granter of eternal youthfulness, and as such she always appears 18 (regardless of her actual physical age).

Character Design: Jira of the Singing Axe

The next few pages of Epic Fail are going to be a flash-back to an earlier adventure where the PCs met Loki. Now since the party make-up was completely different then (aside from Amuletts & Martin) I’m having to create some new character designs.

This is Jira of the Singing Axe. She is a female fighter who would not be seen dead in bikini-mail!!

As you can see I have a couple of armor designs for her. I dug out her character sheet and she is supposed to wear Banded Mail (an armor somewhere between chain & plate). Neither of these are actually banded mail because that was a poorly-designed, inflexible armor whose use was quickly abandoned. So design number 1 is based on Gladiator armor over chain whilst 2 is more like Mongol/mirrored armor (but it’s fantasy so I can totally make stuff up!).

Which design do you like best? Tell me in the comments!

Female Fighter Jira of the Singing Axe

On and FYI design No. 1 was drawn traditionally whereas No. 2 was drawn with my new Cintiq 15X. Can you tell?

OMG Guys! I got a Cintiq! (15X)

As you probably know I am a poor, starving Artist; I do not have a lot of funds. A Wacom Cintiq is a very advanced and expensive piece of kit that I never thought I’d be able to afford in a million years. New they cost around £800 – £1,500. Eep!

Fortunately they’ve been around for a little while now so are turning up on the second-hand market a lot cheaper. This is where I got mine. Off ebay, for £200, shipped over from America. It is an old 15X and the resolution is pretty low (1024 x 768 at 16,777,216 colours) but hey, I have a second monitor for that! Of course the sensitivity is nothing like a more modern one, but that’s not to say it isn’t still really good!
