United Webcomics Swimsuit Special 2014

It’s time for one of them awesome cross-webcomic events. It’s summer and time for a Swimsuit Special with lots of webcomics participating. Please check out the links below to see some fantastic swimsuit-themed art! We at United Webcomics are a very body positive crowd, so some NSFW. I think mine gets by – just!

This was supposed to go up on the 21st but in the grand tradition of Failing Epically I managed to miss a deadline, myself, I set!

You’re probably going to say ‘but I see no swimwear!’ Well, I drew my entire cast in swimsuits last year so I figured I’d be imaginative with this theme. Why do you wear a swimsuit? Why – to go swimming! So I drew Dirk going for a swim. Alright, I sneaked Amuletts in there too; she likes to shape-change into a fish for swimming. The red and black colour scheme should be a dead give-away.

Anyhow, this gave me a bit of a challenge regarding painting an underwater scene. What does a splash look like underwater? What about the surface of the water from below? Actually this is not a million miles away from How Deep and How Far, if you ever saw that painting. Except that was of a merman.

Dice Shaming: The Geeky trend that’s catching on.

You may have heard of Pet Shaming – where pets are photographs next to notes explaining their bad behaviour. But what about those misbehaving dice, eh? Shouldn’t they be ashamed of ruining your winning strategy with their terrible rolls? Well fear not – because Dice Shaming is now a thing and it’s catching on!

This is the one that started it all, as far as we know. Petrified and on fire? One things for sure: they won’t be able to Stop, Drop and Roll.

Risen Game Review

Risen 3 has just been released, but this is a review of the original Risen released in 2009 for PC and Xbox. In a reversal of the usual trend this is a great PC game with a terrible port to console, so if you’re thinking of getting it for PC – absofiggin’lutely! Xbox? Give it a miss.

risen-dungeon

I loved this game. I’m a big fan of the RPG genre and Risen has everything a good RPG should have, and rises above many. You start out shipwrecked on a beach, your first weapon is a stick and the rodents fight better than you do. You’ve come from nowhere but nobody has had visions of you, nor are you the goddamned Chosen One! The characters you meet do not say ‘Oh look it’s the Player’ in fact they are quite surly and distrustful until you have proven yourself. It’s an immersive world with life, character and humour.

Zeno Clash Video Game Review

Zeno Clash is a surreal first-person brawler set in the fantasy world of Zenozoik. You play the role of Ghat who, seemingly, has the whole of this strange world against him save one faithful companion, Daedra. Ghat has murdered a hermaphrodite creature called ‘Father-Mother’ who is, yes, both Father and Mother to himself and a slew of siblings. His Brothers and Sisters will literally chase him to the ends of the earth to punish him for his crime. Daedra just wants Ghat to tell her why.

Talk Nerdy to Me

Talk Nerdy to Me‘ is a parody of the song/music video of Jason Derulo’s ‘Talk Dirty to Me.’ It’s getting added to my Geek Mixtape, that’s for sure. It had me at “Hey, listen!” and Starfleet uniforms. It’s funny and clever and speaks to me. Yes – nerds are sexy!

There’s references to Star Trek, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Zelda, The Lord of the Rings, World of Warcraft, Star Wars, Batman, Iron Man and oh so many things to make my little geek heart fill with glee. I had to freeze-frame the video a few times to take in all the cosplays.

Watch it an enjoy! The lyrics are below.

Alice: Madness Returns Game Review

This is a review of the PC version of Alice: Madness Returns from Steam. I want to make that clear because the game was written for the Xbox console and it’s possibly better on that. The port to PC, however, is poor. The keyboard controls are practically impossible requiring too many keys to be pressed at once. The analogue controls were playable but not pleasantly so; combat made my hands hurt and in my opinion that is a big negative, plus vibrate seemed to occur randomly often when nothing was happening at all!

Logan’s Run Movie Review

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Logan’s Run is my 2nd favourite movie of all time (FYI my first is Labyrinth). Now I’m going to explain why.

Logan’s Run is a Science Fiction movie made in the 1970’s. It is set in a post-apocalyptic future where humans have sealed themselves in a domed city. The city is a utopia, automated systems provide all of life’s necessities leaving mankind free to pursue an existence of pure hedonism, but there’s a catch: nobody lives past 30. It’s Logan’s job, as a ‘Sandmen’, to kill anyone who tries. These people are known as Runners.

My Logan’s Run Birthday Party

So, just over a week ago it was my Birthday, and not just any Birthday. It was my 30th. The Big Three-Oh. Being a Sci-Fi Geek (and an Old School Sci-Fi Geek at that) that Milestone meant just one thing to me: Lastday. Time to Renew, or time to run.

Coping with Anxiety – 10 Methods that work for me

I’m writing this because I suffer from depression and the root cause of this is anxiety, ergo to manage my depression I had to learn coping techniques for my anxiety. (Okay, I don’t mean regular, run-of-the-mill anxiety – this can actually be quite useful! I mean Chronic Anxiety that negatively affects your everyday life). The following is a list of things that work well for me, and maybe will help you to.

Character Design: Lan

Last character design for Epic Fails old adventuring party – those who passed the torch to our current crew. The next time you see them they will be in the comic!

This is Lan, Human Fighter who wields a Bastard Sword. He was young and inexperienced and I’ve tried to make his appearance reflect this. He is wearing chain mail, not having been around long enough to pick up some really good armor. I went with a classic medieval style hairstyle for him.

Lan - D&D Human Fighter

It’s sort of a challenge to make each character look distinctive, but fun too! Do you think I have succeeded?
