Pg 65: Fool me twice

This week in Epic Fail: Dirk realises Amuletts has been messing with him again and is unhappy. Tinuvielle decides she’s going to do something about it.

Creator’s Commentary: “Fool me once shame on you; Fool me twice shame on me.”

In D&D terms the ‘Slippery’ spell would be the ‘Grease’ spell (but I kinda want non-D&D players to understand what the spell does without reading a spell description, thus the renaming).

I know Amuletts elicits mixed feelings in fans: some love her some hate her. But I think you can all agree that she’s been asking for it for a while now.

Pg 64: Paladin Baiting

Today in Epic Fail: Amuletts plants a gem in Martin’s saddlebag then ‘steals’ it back making sure Dirk is watching her.

Creator’s Commentary: It is Dialogue Free Comics Day today and I took up the challenge to draw a comic telling the story with only pictures and no text. I hope you can follow it easily enough. There are lots of other webcomics doing the challeng as well today so make sure you check them out.

Yes Amuletts is engaging in the sport she likes to call ‘Paladin Baiting’ (quite possibly to distract for her mistake of flying off in the wrong direction on the previous page). I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. You can assume she does this ‘fake theft’ thing quite a bit in order to confuse Dirk.

Pg 62: Literally Figuratively Speaking

This Week in Epic Fail: Our heroes are ready to depart but Tinuvielle has a bug up her butt about the correct usage of the word ‘literally’.

Creator’s Commentary: Okay so my idea here was that they say they’re ready to leave and then they leave, but could I just do that? Noooo.

I had Amuletts saying ‘Time is literally money’ for a long time in my script, then I got really persnickety about the usage of ‘literally’ which it should really be ‘figuratively’ and so this happened. I’m sure logophiles will appreciate it.

I think the text is too small. Can you read it?

Amuletts Playing with Fire

Amuletts playing with fire

Finished the artwork for the first Epic Fail card for the Wagon Webcomic Battle. It’s Amuletts doing what she does best – playing with fire! Man that fire was fun to do!

Pg 61: Family Values

This week in Epic Fail: Clodin Learns that Amuletts has sold Andy Roid.

Creator’s Commentary: Busy scene this one. I thought it would be a real pain drawing Amuletts’ Gryphon, the horses and everything but it was really fun! (As a child I was obsessed with horses and drew almost nothing else so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised it comes back easily).

I know it may seem kind of weird that I included Andy in the story at all given he was going to disappear so quickly, but there were a few reasons why. 1) I try not to stray too far from the events that happened in gaming reality; 2) He helps highlight Amuletts’ mercenary nature; 3) If I ever go back and cover the adventure before this one I want the continuity to be straight (it’s not totally beyond the realms of possibility that I would. It was a good adventure); 4) Other characters will come and go too. Might as well start as I mean to go on.

Sunday Sketch #16 – 25 Essential Expressions

I decided to do this exercise because I love expressions and it is good to practise character consistency. I’m not completely happy with all of them so I’ll probably redraw a few. I might possible ink/color them later… I’m not sure at the moment.
Please do leave me your feedback and constructive critism – I love to hear it and it is very useful.

Pg 57: Amuletts Laments

This Week in Epic Fail: Everyone is delighted they got given so much money but Amuletts is lamenting that it wasn’t more.

Creator’s Commentary: Big surprise there! Yeah… I don’t think you learn anything new about the characters from this page that you didn’t already know :p  I suppose you may not have realised quite how much pride Amuletts takes in her greed. It really means a lot to her that she’s better at it than anyone else. She’s worked hard at those character flaws dammit!

I had a go at a few different expressions here. Amuletts is meant to have a thousand mile stare in frame one but I’m not sure it worked out; I’m tempted to edit it so her ears are drooping a bit there as well. My intent was that she be sticking her lower lip out in panel three. Dirk is supposed to be rolling his eyes in the fouth panel and sneering in the fifth. As always critique welcome; I’m trying to push my skill further where I can.

I’m moving house at the weekend. Wish me luck!

Sunday Sketch #11 – My Little Pony Amuletts

Amuletts as a My Litte Pony MLP FiM Fanart

This weeks Sunday Sketch is Amuletts as a My Little Pony, ‘Friendship is Magic’ style. She’s supposed to be looking a bit devious (don’t know if I pulled that off).

She’s a Unicorn for the simple reason she can cast spells, so characters who are spell casters will have horns and those that aren’t won’t. Her Cutie Mark is a Flame because her special talent is playing with fire, lol. (And she’s a Cleric of Loki).

Pg 56: Lost for Words

This week in Epic Fail: Amuletts tries to negotiate a good price for their services, and gets more than she expected.

Creator’s Commentary: It’s no secret that I use artistic liscence on my pages. Not on this one. This is almost word-for-word how it played out. 20 thousand gp was the most anyone had hever seen in game, so it was flabbergasting Simone (the Mage NPC) would just agree to it. So Amuletts stuttered… because I stuttered.

I might revise Amuletts’ expression in the last panel, it didn’t really turn out like I intended.

SPECIAL: Thor’s Hammer

Another special comic based on Thor. I just kept thinking up funnies so here you go! I’ve uploaded a bigger version to Deviantart which you can look at if you like.

I’m getting ready for the convention season and want to create a mini comic. Well… a pamphlet actually, but you’ll see what I mean. So I’ll be taking an officail break from the main comic but probably be posting a lot of other stuff. I’ll fill you in on the details with a proper blog post soon.

The first con I’ll be going to is the Bristol Small Press Expo on May 14th-15th.
